The Day I Met Stars

When we were kids, our folks owned a dodge omni. It was an amazing vehicle. As we grew up, we traded it for a van, to fit us all in.
It's one of my dream cars. I look for it, always. On day, last summer, I found one on ebay for 20 bucks. It didn't run, but could be fixed.
It was in a little village, about 40 miles from here. After work one day, my brother and I rented a small uhaul and bought a towcable from walmart, and headed for the sticks.
Her profile name was Stars. That's what everyone called her. I don't recall her real name. Her voice was old, on the phone. But she looked young. Her and her man helped us tow it out from a field of cars, where it was grown over with vegitation. And they helped us un-rust the back tire.
I heard more about activism and philosophy in those two hours than in my whole life. Stars was full of wisdom and experience. She lives a full life. It seemed that she had the answer to all life's mystery --and with a sly smile -- wouldn't tell you any of it. I felt like I was truly in that moment with her.
It's a deep respect that I take on her name.
